How far can I upgrade the whole black A1181 MacBook?

I currently have a late 2009 Unibody MacBook, but I really love how the 2008 black looks. I want to know how far I can upgrade it. I'd like to get the fastest CPU that I can. I don't think I can use the 2009 unibody logic board, but if anyone knows a way that would be great. I'd also like to upgrade the touchpad, maybe to the same one my current MacBook has? All information is appreciated! Thanks for the help.

Sadly, replacing the logic board won't get you much. Sure you'll gain a few hertz in speed but not enough to warrent replacing the logic board. Memory in these is also limited due to the architecture of the processor & it's support logic. Neither can be upgraded.

OK, that's the bad news so what is the good?

You can gain performance by maxing out the RAM, look at upgrading the HD to a SSHD and if you can find a workable SSD you might try that {one wrinkle here with the SSD you'll need to find one that works at SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) speed, many don't any more and they are costly}. Which is why I strongly recommend going with a SSHD hybrid drive like Seagate's.

The last item on your list was the trackpad. The newer units use a different interface as such they won't work in your system.
