Power/volume button ribbon cable/flex same as 2nd generation?

Hey I'm just wondering about the small flex cable assembly that includes the power/lock button and volume buttons and is glued to the back under the circuit boards. I can find parts for the 2G but I'm wondering if the same part will work in 3G iPod touches.

I guess it's pretty rare for these parts to need replacement but water damage can harm the button functionality. I wonder if it's worth making a guide for it.

Yes, it looks like that's the case. At least, the photos for the two iFixit guides are identical:

Well I'll just have to wait until I get a 3rd gen with a bad volume/power ribbon and swap in one of my spare 2nd gen parts and see what happens!

I repaired an iPod Touch 3G with the 2G power cable and all the button work. I'm convinced it's the same cable.
