Computer went totally dead while using it.

I was in the middle of loading music to my phone when it just went dead. No light on Mag safe charger. No indication on Batt indicator. Tried another Batt and another Mag Safe charger but nothing works. Any thoughts what I need to troubleshoot or replace? Is it worth fixing such an old computer?

Can you give us the last four digits of your systems serial number.

I cant find a serial number on it.

I did see that it said 2009 on the back. I opened the Batt access door and pulled the Batt also. Still did not see a serial number.

The back says model No. A1286

I does not have a serial number on it. I did buy this computer as a refurbished unit from Apple. Maybe they replaced it with a back plate that does not have a serial number on it.

Please don't take this the wrong way but my computer will not come on. It's a little hard to go to "about this Mac" if it will not come on.

The serial number is on the bottom plate in very fine print. Press the battery test button and see if it gives you indication of ant charge. Yes it is worth saving. Test the Mag-Safe adapter pins to see if pins 2 & 4 are putting anything out. Clean the mag-safe port of any debris or crud that may be preventing contact. This really sounds like a drained battery problem to me.

That serial number shows it to be a

Identifiers: Late 2008 - MB471LL/A - MacBookPro5,1 - A1286 - 2255

The first thing I would check is the keyboard to logic board connection as seen in step #18 of this guide. MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 and Early 2009 Logic Board Replacement

I use a piece of tape to help pull the cable into the socket on the logic board. Note the locking tab and release it using your fingernail. This is a delicate part so be careful. A disconnected cable would cause you start up issues. Let us know what you find.

I tested the battery and it was charged. I also bought a new battery and tried it. When I push the button on the side it does not show any lights for battery strength. I checked my MagSafe charger on another computer and it works fine. I even tried using a different MagSafe charger and still nothing. The contacts are clean also.

Appears the logic board will no longer read a battery being there. That serial number might give us a clue. I'd really like to have it before making a call because this is right at a transition period in MBPs. If you can't read the number on the back it can be found under the Apple on the screen in "about this Mac" . more info > hardware second line from the bottom. Is the battery externally removable?
