mower drives for 5 min then stslls and stops
ride on mower will drive for about 10mins then chucks and comes to a stop .leave it for a while and it will do the same again

Check the gas cap vent. If the gas tank does not get air a vacuum with form and starve the engine out. After a while enough air will seep in to allow the gas to flow again.

I'd be more inclined to think that the intake manifold or carburetor bolts are loose, making it run lean, and over heat, since it has to sit for awhile before it will start again. Then rinses off and repeats. Could also be a gas line filter clogged and because of the tank vent it depressurizes the line, pulling the debris back.
If it were the gas cap vent, it most likely wouldn't initially start. If it did it wouldn't start again until you loosen the cap. Those are things that either work, or don't. That has been my experience anyways.
