Will alcohol damage my phone in an attempt to clean water damage

My power and volume buttons on my LG G3 are not working (suspected water damage). I read that if there is residue on the buttons, I can clean it with alcohol. But could alcohol harm my device or is it completely harmless to put a drop or two of alcohol on the buttons?

I mean, it's worth a try if it can't hurt my device, right?

And if I was to actually do this procedure, where can I find the exact step by step guide, so that I don't mess anything up. Please help.

I would be concerned about the effect of the alcohol on the adhesive that fixes the power/volume buttons in place, and potentially on the flex cable that connects them. Have a look at the teardown for this phone.

Now that said, IF you do this after removing the parts from the phone and are prepared to replace these parts, then it's worth a shot. But if you have the replacement parts already...you may be better off just replacing them.
