Keyboard Backlight only glows in center

NOTE: I am aware of this thread Keyboard backlight only glows in center but my problem is not caused by a spillage.

I've been repairing a macbook pro for the last couple months on and off.

I've learned a lot along the way and have realized some things I did wrong.

The keyboard was sticky so I replaced it, but ended up I guess damaging the kb backlight because it now does not work. It diffused evenly among the keys before.

I now bought a replacement keyboard backlight, and it diffuses brightly to the few center keys then very dimly among the others, and only shines through the letters of the few center keys and none of the others.

I've re-inserted the LEDs in the plastic film to make sure they are correct placed, and I still have the same problem.

I have a feeling that it is a problem with the backlight I purchased, which even though states is compatible with my model looks quite different than the original I have.

Should I buy another one from a different seller and retry?

Could it be a problem with the replacement keyboard?

Thanks everyone

Get the proper part number off the original keyboard. Don't spit into the wind or try to get an improper replacement part to function correctly.

Thanks, yes it turned out to be a wrong replacement. I figured because the seller listed my model under compatible I should go with it, but the LED layout was different.

I ended up returning that keyboard and buying a replacement.

It turns out that the replacement I ordered was slightly different than the original. The LED layout is different than the original.

I ordered a replacement that has the same LED layout as the original and it worked.

The non working one and working one both came with matching keyboards, by the way, so that was not the problem.

So if you have this problem make sure the replacement you order is as close to the original as possible.

This is most likely due to incorrect placement. If you are having a lot of trouble get the keyboard that comes with the backlight already pre installed.

As I said I had already re adjusted it many times.

The keyboard has to be separated from the backlight, as you have to screw it in to the chassis.

I ordered a matching keyboard and backlight if that's what you mean.

I just added an update by the way

Glad you figured it out!
