Hi,

Am using iPod touch and planning to get the new one but i would like to know if i can remove the built-in speaker or put it on silence forever as it embarrassed me several times when it start playing any thing while it is in my pocket.

I don't care if the solution is software-level or hardware-level as long as i get what i want.

If you remember to set it to “Mute” before, that can help. If you want to open it up, though, you can do the following. Use iFixit’s tear down guides to help:

iPod Touch 1:

No internal speaker

iPod 2/3:

Snip audio wire

iPod 4:

Snip wires

iPod 5/6:

No way to disconnect (All data carried by single wire)

Good luck!
