Update and restore fails

Was given an i5s that had water damage and a cracked screen. Replaced screen. Speaker and battery. Phone powered up fine seemed to work good. I reset phone back to factory and tried to update and start as a new phone not it stops and errors at the firmware section of update. Always codes (1). Cord is good and connections are good. Also noticed battery was getting warm and loosing power quickly. Any help will be appreciated

You are getting error 1? That's not good. This usually implies that the baseband is corrupted. iPhone issues don't really get worse than this. I don't know everything about error 1, but I have saved a few by re-heating the flash memory IC and/or the baseband IC. I usually do it about 330F for 30 seconds with a hot air rework station. This requires removing the rear shield on the motherboard. I think the only other solution is to recall the baseband chip. This is very difficult since you MUST re-use the same baseband chip, you can't just replace it. That chip and the other two baseband related chips on the board are specifically paired with that motherboard. The phone will not work without the original chip. Re-balling requires some pretty serious BGA skills too. I haven't had to courage to attempt it yet. I would seriously recommend finding another motherboard or selling the phone as is
