iPhone 5 battery replacement is losing power fast

My original battery for my 5 was slowly dying so I went and got the replacement kit today. However, after putting in the replacement battery, the power is rapidly decreasing. I've only had the new battery in for an hour and it's already lost 30% of power. Is this normal for the battery fresh out of the box to do that? Or is it part of the steps following the replacement? Am I supposed to use up the battery and then do a full charge on the new battery?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Where did you get the battery? It could be defective. However I would be more inclined to suspect a defective U2 IC than the battery if the issue continues with multiple batteries.

A U2 issue might be the cause, but I'd think its odd that the batteries are not acting the same if the battery wasn't the issue.

I strongly suggest the ifixit batteries if you're just needing one. They're careful about their quality and on the off chance that you end up with a dud they're good about taking care of you. Sourcing the 1 off battery from ebay or amazon is really a hit or miss thing because you're dealing with a vendor that doesn't care if they ever sell to you again and consequently don't care about quality.
