Cools for approximately one hour then stops cooling

I have a GE Profile Bottom Freezer Model 26. If the refrigerator is newly plugged in, both the freezer and fridge will begin to cool. After approximately one hour they stop cooling, become warm and do not cool again. The control panel continuously flashes 88 then 89 for freezer temperature and 88 for refrigerator temperature. That is the only information that will show on the control panel. . While it is cooling for the first hour it sounds like a normal refrigerator -- little bit of hum, little bit of fluid movement. The refrigerator was purchased in June of 2009. GE Customer Care told me there was no trouble shooting that could be done. That I needed a service call that cost $100 for showing up and additional $$ for parts and labor.
