Overheating and back camera not working

Hi all,

I dropped my iphone 5 a while back which smashed the screen, but it worked fine. I have it to a friend to fix and now I'm having issues.

The phone works, though the rear camera no longer works (just get a blank picture, front one is fine) and the phone overheats and switches off when left on its own. This normally takes a while the first time and the becomes quicker if you reset it. After a while when it boots the apple symbol is displayed along with a nand flash error.

I've taken the screen off and the heat appears to be coming from the large metal cover on the logic board just above the sim. Any ideas of fixes?

That area of the logic board always gets warm but I have seen a phone overheat when a camera that has gone bad is still plugged into the logic board. Since the rear camera isn't working, you could try to unplug it from the logic board to see if this corrects the overheating issue. Doing this does require you to remove the logic board, so if you're not familiar with taking apart this device, you should take it to a repair shop.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried unplugging both the back and front cameras. Sadly this hasn't helped and the phone still overheats and switches off. I think something else must be broken, but I don't think I've got the experience to fix it. I'll have to take it to a repair shop.
