LCD backlight and video half work half don't

LCD backlight and video not working completely. Backlight does not work at all. I used the trick posted in one of the questions/answers about shining a light through the Apple Logo, what I get is the left half of the screen has wavy lines through it, the right side appears to be ok. I have replaced the video cable because the hinges had gotten very loose and pinched the cable so bad that the copper was visible on the video cable. My question is how do I tell for sure that I need a new LCD? I have a picture of what is happening attached.

Most of the time you get a short like this it will burn up the LVDS connector. This can also burn up other pins on that connector.

Youll need to have the connector removed and repair any damage to the board.

Yep, that's what I thought. The hinges got loose and my wife didn't tell me about it. After many open and closings, the screen quit working. THAT'S when she told me about it. Way too late to do anything useful. I took it apart and saw that the data cable was chaffed to the point that the copper was showing. I ordered a new cable and put it in, but the display didn't work. I have an external monitor I'd been using, but I guess that the short did damage the board because the computer has been getting more and more troublesome as time progresses. Guess I'll just use it for a parts machine and get a used one like it from somewhere. I have a website that has nice machines under $300.00 don't know if I'm allowed to say who they are, but you can find them on Amazon. Thanks for the reply.

You can have the connector repaired for half the cost.
