Moving a system hard disk to another laptop

How can I move a system hard disk, currently installed in a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, to a Lenovo ws530. The original Lenovo disk crashed and I wish to move the Dell-based disk because it has essentially the same data. Thank you

How did the original drive die?

What have you do recovery wise? (Just getting the full picture)

Thanks for replying to my post. My laptop fell from a table less than two feet tall, but flat on a hard floor. Ran the Lenovo diagnostics and the disk failed all tests. Tried to recover damaged sectors, but there were so many the system gave up after a while. As backup, I have Windows Images taken from regular backups. As a note, I can't immediately purchase a new disk because I am temporarily working in a village in Peru with no access to computer parts. I only have another old PC (a Dell) from which I wanted to cannibalize the hard disk.

if the hard drive can be formatted and a fresh copy of whatever operating system you want to use is available to be installed, it should work fine as long as both hard drives are sata. but as far as just sticking in the hard drive and wishing it to work the way it is from the old computer. No that wont happen. Machines have different drivers and windows has this thing about moving its os around from one machine to another. So you will need a fresh install of windows or linux. Hope this helps and good luck

I would add, if you want the data from the hard drive, there is fairly cheap cables that will allow you to access it.

HDD Docking station are good investment in that case as well.
