Do I REALLY need the T8 Torx Security Bit Screwdriver?
Do I REALLY need the T8 Torx Security Bit Screwdriver or will a standard T8 get the job done? Replacing the HD with an SSD.
Is this a good question?

Only the newer Mac mini requires the Torx T8 security bit driver as Apple altered things. Your Mid 2010 does not need it.

No a regular T8 won't work, unless you bust the center pin out in the TT8 screw. A better way to do it is to get a small flat head, one that will fit across two points. To clarify, there are 6 points in the Torx star. Lets number them 1,2,3...and so on clockwise. You want the flat head to fit between points 1 and 3, sliding just above the tamper pin. Without a TT8 bit, this is the best way to remove the screws without messing them up.
