The phone doesn't charge after falling into butter and my awful repair

Couple of days ago I accidentally dropped my Iphone 3g into the melted butter :( so it fell with the bottom side. I cleaned it and then left to dry. Today I turned it on, but the sound of music was too quiet and people I call could hardly hear me.

I decided to take the phone apart, and to clean it from the inside. Everything went ok up to the moment when the dock connector block had to be taken out. It was a hard to take it out with fingers, so I tried to push with a screwdriver from the outer side right in the upper center of the port (i know, it was a bad idea). At some point the screwdriver pierced the plastic and went just under the board which is connected to the port.

After that I looked over this part, thought that nothing is broken. Then I cleaned everything and assembled the phone. The sound was perfect, but when I tried to charge the phone it failed.

Couldn't find a way how to post images here. To make things clear, please, click here. The photos are on Dropbox.com.

Now the phone is off because the battery is empty, and I don't know what to do. If anyone has any idea, please, tell me. Is it the butter, or is it the hole from screwdriver?

You probably need to replace the dock connector piece; you may have shorted the charging connectors out with the butter. I'd try replacing the connector and see if that does anything. You can get the part here and follow this guide.
