Trackpad and keyboard with MacBook late 2008 exchangeable

Hello

I have got parts of a MacBook from late 2008 (the 2 GHz ones, not a Pro) and I have got an early 2011 13" MBP where trackpad and keyboard are not working any longer.

Can I exchange the pad and the keyboard with the ones of the MacBook? And will they work correctly?

Hi! Actually the keyboard can be transferred from late 2008 MB to Late 2011 MBP, if you really need to. (Did this just a minute ago). But unfortunately the trackpad is too different to fit. Keyboard will function just fine, all the screwholes doesn´t match.

Sorry, but no.

As I've mentioned before, Apple stupidly recycled the A1278 model number for two very different machines. In 2008, they used it for the Aluminum MacBook (the first Unibody MacBook), and then they recycled the same number in 2009-2015 for the 13" Unibody MacBook Pro.

The two versions have nothing in common except the Apple name, aluminum cases and 13" displays; they have no common components between them.

As you can see, there are no overlapping part numbers between the two computers, because no matter how similar the parts look, they are not identical.

I too have both a 2008 Aluminum MacBook and an Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro, both with their own quirks, which might be solved by swapping parts between the two...but the parts can't be swapped. I feel your pain.

Hello

Sorry, but had some problems to access ifixit - got some errors while posting an answer; hopefully it will work now.

As I can seen there not much parts exchangeable.

But if I am right, and what to mention from stores, LVDS cable seems to be exchangeable with MacBook Pro 13" early and late 2011? And also the TFT / LCD itself?

Not exactly. The 2008 MacBook Aluminum can swap LVDS cables and LCD panels with the 2009/2010 A1278 MacBook Pros, but not with the 2011 or 2012 generations, which each use their own unique parts. The 2008 MacBook and the 2009/10 13" Macbook Pro both used Nvidia GPUs, while the 2011 and later 13" MBPs have all used Intel graphics chipsets.

The 2008 MACBOOK a1278 keyboard fits 2009-2012 a1278 and works exactly as it should. Don't know about trackpad, my screws were rusted but connection looks the same.
