unable to call with 4 bars on T-Mobile

I returned from a cruise and had my phone on airplane mode the whole time. I came off the Cruise and took it off airplane mode and made a call. No ringing sound, but I could tell the person on the other side picked up. Only silence on both ends. I have switched to and from wifi preferred, cellular preferred, turned on and off wifi calling, etc, to no avail. T-Mobile can't find the problem remotely and has suggested I bring it in. Unfortunately, there is no place to bring it in to. Presently, as long as I am at home, connected to my wifi, I can send and receive calls and texts. Away from home I can receive texts but cannot send them. Also, my phone rings away from home, but no sound when I answer, and cannot call out. Any suggestions?
