boots & then shuts down

every time that i power on, the computer starts to boot and sometimes does but then powers off or may not boot at all and powers off

Please remove the three screws in the bottom of the frame and remove the housing. Press the reset button on the power supply located at the bottom of the frame where the power cord plugs in. You should also note two rest button about the middle of the motherboard just to the left of the diagnostic LED lights. Plug it in and press the top one with the eraser tip of a pencil. This resets the PRAM. Pressing the bottom one restarts the computer. Note the condition of the diagnostic lights and tell us which ones are on to see where to look next. Look at the 24 capacitors (the small cans) on the motherboard and see if any are corroded and/or bugling.

I've had a bad USB cable shutting down the iMac. When trying to restart, it would begin and then shut off again. After unplugging the USB cable everything OK.

I guess my imac is a bit older. When I removed the screws at the bottom of the unit, the display comes off and have no access to see the power suplly. Everything is behing the monitor. I am Stuck here!!

Should I gho through the front of the unit? is it possible?

Everytime I power on, it just make the chime and then powers off.

ramon, start your own question to get the right answer..some imac open from the front, some from the bottom/back. give the emc or last 3 letters of serial number to help us identify your mac and show the correct guides. Click on "ask" a question top right under the photo of the mac.
