Options

Replace ODD with USB 3 ports?

This is just a theoretical question at this (link below) point, but I saw these on amazon today and it made me wonder if I could replace my iMac's Optical Disc Drive with a set of USB-3.0 ports rather than a dual SSD. (never minding the problem of plugin them in at the moment)

Sounds interesting but:

"Backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices; Operating System Compatibility: Windows XP/Vista/7/8"

Also it would have a problem with the BUS Speed of the optical drive being a bottle neck.

It also appears it needs a PCI slot. It might be able to be flashed for a pre-2013 MacPro.
