I believe my A/C condensor fan motor motor went out

I am trying to replace this and I was wondering if I can use another part this number crosses to the improved Emerson. My capacitor was blown (unit hummed when contacts engaged) When that was replaced the Compressor will come on but the fan will not I tested red to black with ohm meter no continuity. I started the unit and spun the fan by hand and it did not take off. The brown cap wire to the black wire did show continuity. Wire colors are Red Black and (Brown to cap).

So have you checked to voltage on the motor to see if it even gets power when the relay kicks in? What make and model is your AC?

Both the compressor and the fan seem to come off the same contactor/relay for the red and black wires. I did a test of the wires on the fan for continuity, But I did not test to see if I had power at the fan. (I will not be back onsite until Friday night) I will test it then. The compressor/heat pump unit is a TempStar high efficiency 5000 model ch5524vkc3 and it has a Emerson K55HXPSS-7300 fan motor in it.

Drive Motor

Every air conditioner has a circulation fan motor also called a drive motor. The motor has two fan blades, on one side the blade draws outside air over the condensing coil to dissipate the heat. On the other side of the motor there is a fan blade drawing room air over the evaporator coil. If the fan does not run, the drive motor may be defective.

Dual Shaft Fan Motor

Every air conditioner has a circulation fan motor also called a dual shaft fan motor. The motor has two fan blades, on one side the blade draws outside air over the condensing coil to dissipate the heat. On the other side of the dual shaft fan motor there is a fan blade drawing room air over the evaporator coil. If the fan does not run, the dual shaft fan motor may be defective.

Fan Motor

If the fan does not run the fan motor may be burned out or worn out. The fan blades should spin very freely, if the blade doesn't spin freely the fan motor should be replaced. If power is getting to the fan motor but the fan motor still does not run, it may be burned out. The fan motor is not repairable, it will have to be replaced if it is defective.

Relay Board

The relay board provides voltage to many of the components of the air conditioner. If the fan does not run, there might be a problem with the relay board. Before replacing the board, check all of the other components. The main control board is often misdiagnosed.

Temperature Control Thermostat

If the air conditioner fan does not run, the temperature control thermostat might be defective. The temperature control thermostat has electrical contacts inside that burn out over time. It is possible for the thermostat to still turn on the compressor but not the fan motor.

Thermostat

If the air conditioner fan does not run the thermostat might be defective. The thermostat is a sensor which detects the room air temperature and a switch to provide power to the fan and compressor. If the thermostat is defective the air conditioner fan does not run.

Main Control Board

The main control board provides voltage to all of the components of the air conditioner. If the fan does not run, there might be a problem with the main control board. Before replacing the board, check all of the other components. The main control board is often misdiagnosed.

Thermistor

If the air conditioner fan does not run the thermistor might be defective. The thermistor is a sensor which detects the room air temperature. It is connected to the control board. If the thermistor is defective it will not have continuity when it should and can prevent the fan from running.

Blower Motor

If the fan does not run the blower motor may be burned out or worn out. The blower blades should spin very freely, if the blade doesn't spin freely the blower motor should be replaced. If power is getting to the blower motor but the motor still does not run, it may be burned out. The blower motor is not repairable, it will have to be replaced if it is defective.

Capacitor

If the air conditioner fan is not working the capacitor for the fan motor might be bad. Some air conditioners use a single phase fan motor that needs a run capacitor to energize a second phase winding. If the run capacitor is bad or not rated properly for the motor it may not run at all, be noisy or overheat.

Rotary Switch

If the fan does not run, the fan rotary switch might be defective. The switch is called rotary because the switch is turned to operate it. Over time the contacts inside the switch can become pitted and stop conducting electricity. Test the switch for continuity if the switch wiring diagram is available. Otherwise the switch will have to be replaced.

Selector Switch

If the fan does not run the selector switch might be defective. If the fan runs intermittently when the selector switch buttons are pushed the switch will have to be replaced. If there is any arcing or smoke coming from the selector switch it should be replaced.
