Memory Upgrade to 4 gig

I want to upgrade the memory in my iMac from 2 gig to 4 gig. Do I order two new 2 gig memory chips or can I use the 2 gig chip I now have and just install one new 2 gig chip?

Usually you will have 2x 1Gb chips in a 2Gb configuration.

Go to: About this mac -> More Info... -> Memory

There you will see the ram chips connected to the machine.

If there are 2x 1Gb you need to buy 2x 2Gb. If you have 1x 2Gb you can get 1 new 2Gb chip. However you will loose some speed, but nothing worth mentioning.

According to exactly which model you have this machine may accept up to 8 GB of RAM. Look on the bottom of the stand to find out which machine you have then go here for the correct configuration: http://www.ramdirect.com/vcom/index.php?...
