Apparently, IOS 10 will shut down touch id functionality if the iPhone is turned on with either a replacement home button attached, or a non-attached original home button. The only fix I have found so far is to reinstall iOS10 in DFU mode with the original home button attached. If the home button is a replacement, Touch ID will not work. - Lowell - iplaypower.com

Umm..... It's been that way since iOS 8... That issues has been here for years with any Touch ID phones...

I am running IOS 10.3.1 The home button cable is completely in two. It turns off and on with the sleep button without any issues. As a matter of fact it operates fine using assistive touch in place of the home button. Apple informs me updating the software will not be an issue.

Yeah, Billy. That error 53 thing is a past issue that got resolved. The courts made apple take care of that. Also now you can bring your phone into Apple, I think it's $150, and you can get Touch ID functionality back

I have had cellular connection issues for about six weeks, tried everything including the DFU and would always get it working for a day or so. Finally I replaced the WIFI antenna and flex cable and it worked great for a week, however, that's when I broke the home button. I decided to go ahead and replace the button but yesterday It started with the "searching" issue again. With that I am sending it to Apple. I have had it with this phone.

Unlike Samsung home button, iPhone 5S, 6 or 6 plus touch id function will lose if the home button is replaced. As Apple has already stated that fingerprint data is stored on the A8 chip in a Secure Enclave that is only accessible by the sensor itself, the Touch ID sensor is tied to the unique logic board inside each iPhone. If you break the original Touch ID sensor then that iPhone 5S will not have Touch ID function any longer.

You can't upgrade with a replacement home button on the 6 6+ Or it will not work as you have done and you lose Touch ID

Will never work, period.

Also do not update or restore iOS or the phone dies altogether.
