Lately, the memory component of my mpb has been more hot then usual. I downloaded smc fan control but that was only a temporary fix.. My laptop now will just outright crash and re boot, is this a memory or a logic board issue a this point?

You'll need to do some deeper digging here. I would recommend downloading Temperature Gauge Pro which will allow you to see what the built-in sensors are telling you. Paste a snapshot here for us to see as well.
I would suspect your fans are clogged up with dust and your heat sink thermal paste needs to be refreshed. But before you start down this path you should get an idea where you are now.
