Not sure if only glass needs to be replaced

The 3GS was dropped and the glass is cracked, the LCD works but in the middle of trying to sync the screen freaks out and the phone locks up and it will never install the ios. Is this common and will replacing the front panel assembly fix this or do I need more parts? Thanks

I would open the phone and check for possible loose connectors before I purchase a costly display. It can be something as simple as a loose connector or it can be a damaged Logic Board. If it isnt the Logic Board which has damage then replacing the glass and digitizer would be easy. You can purchase it here and use the repair guides here as well. I'm not sure if a cracked glass would disrupt any software changes, but I can be wrong.

I'd also try a complete re-set before opening.

Thanks majesty and Mayer for the response. When I turn the phone on it asks me to connect to iTunes and it says it's in restore mode. Mayer, I thought this was a complete reset, is there something else I can do? But as I said above it never finishes the restore and install of the os. Thanks again
