Swap screens Matte MacBook Pro 17" mid 2010 with Glossy late 2011?

I have two 17-inch Macbook Pros, and I want to swap the screens. One Matte 17-inch mid 2010 and one Glossy 17-inch late 2011.

Is this possible?

Thanks

As you can see the complete lid assembles are different part numbers.

Trying to replace the LCD its self could be done but in the process you'll likely damage the rubber gasket or the cover glass. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody LCD Replacement.

2010 Display Assembly (1920 x 1200), with AirPort antenna

  • Glossy - 661-5470
  • Anti-Glare - 661-5471

2011 Display Assembly (1920 x 1200), with AirPort antenna

  • Glossy - 661-5963
  • Anti-Glare - 661-5964

Dan, take a look at the second link I gave and see what you think.

The '11 model has MIMO (450 Mbit/sec 802.11n) so the antennas are different. Otherwise there is no difference.

Since he's just replacing the screen, the antennas don't come into play. So I think it will work.

Agreed, LCD screen alone no issues, full assembly he'll have WiFi antenna differences.

From what I have been able to research it appears that it will work. Powerbook medics part finder lead to the same parts for both machines: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/17-Inch-Ma...

2010

661-5470 glossy

661-5471 anti-glare

See the compatibility list here for the 2010Macbook Pro 17" Anti-Glare Display Assembly and it will work on the 2011.
