Copying Old HDD to new UPgrade HDD

My old Mid 2010 MBP 13" new life as a Teenager machine needs new HDD replacing the 250gb HDD with a 1 TB HDD. The question is swap for swap it no problem. How do you get the brain and OS from the current HDD the New one?

Or if you have another machine, hook it up in Target Mode and then do the duplication.
