My MaBook Pro was dropped during a move and the left side hinge (black plastic piece) was broken and cracked approximately an inch from the side, making it difficult to open and close as well as keeping screen still at certain angles as the weight of the top separates from the bottom easily now.

Did you review the IFIXIT guide to replace the display to see what parts are broken?

You will likely need to find a junker to seal the parts from as many parts are not available as replacements.
You could see what Apple can do for you. If you have an Apple Store near you give them a try. Often they will charge you a bench fee + parts to fix your system.
