Why does the screen suddenly go to many colors?

After turning on my iBook the screen goes to many colors after a minute or 2. They are all square or rectangular and the computer freezes.

I must unplug the compute to let the battery drain.

After the battery has drained, and turned off the computer, I can replug the power cord and in a few moments start the iBook.

The very same behavior will start happening all over again.

Answer this question I have this problem too

it sounds a little bit like a faulty graphics processor.

are there artefacts around the mouse pointer or is there something like a pattern when the "colors" are showing up ?

It could also be as simple as overheating, have you checked to see if the vents are clear of dust?

overheating should not lead to: "After turning on my iBook the screen goes to many colors after a minute or 2. They are all square or rectangular and the computer freezes."

It's a recurring problem, happens after several minutes, and the computer doesn't turn on right away after... and it's an easy thing to check out.
