My iPhone does not recognises SIM?

My iPhone is the 1st generation 8gb phone. The problem is although i installed SIM card in it it says "SIM not Installed". I tried swithcing off the phone an on it with the SIM, still it says the same....rest all features like WiFi etc are working.

hi, i'm using this what they called high card/GB sim to use other network provider with an unlocked iPhone 4s, it was working for 3yrs, I tried to remove my sim card & put it back in, now my phone doesn't recognize my GB sim to get passed the activation process. pls help. thanks!
