LCD yellow horizontal banding dull - see image

I have an iMac which just started giving a yellow banding from left to right on the screen. Clarity is still fine. It is more intense along the edge and weakens in yellowing near the middle. Bands are approx 1-5 to 2 inches apart. I have checked the power supply, inverter and cable to and from for any defects. Image is perfect on external monitor.

Has anyone seen this? I was thinking possibly a weak inverter board as bands seem to be along where cfl's run.

Thanks in advance.

Brian, having done some color corrections on your images, you can definitely see that it is your CCFL's that create the lines. It is possible that it is your invert, but unlikely. My money is on the CCFL's itself. It is possible (although difficult) to replace those. You could of course try a new inverter first, since it is a lot cheaper and this will set your mind at ease. Hope that helps, good luck.

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Thanks for the image and info. If I can find one cheap I might try the inverter. When the inverters die is there any physical damage visible? Blown resistor etc?

by

And do they often die several at once like that?

by

I've had plenty of monitors with failed inverters, those are usually all of a sudden and present with a dark screen, not the banding. The once I checked had issues with the transformers.

Same here, normally inverter is all or nothing.

Yellowing is most commonly bad CCFL's
