Yesterday, my kindle was fully functioning, but this morning, it seemed like the bottom half of my screen was blank. I can not see the bottom part of the home page, my books, the shop, or anything.

I had EXACTLY the same issue. I woke up in the morning and the bottom half doesn't work. Many sites say this is because i have dropped it or the screen was impacted but I know this is not the case. I then found screens for £15 on e-bay and thought this was fairly cheap and tutorial videos on how to fit them so was prepared to do this myself. My dad works with someone who knows a lot about this stuff so I got him to check it out and he said that replacing the screen would be a nightmare as they glue the screens on newer versions such as mine. He said it would be easier and cheaper to buy a second hand one for around £30. I'm not happy with this as I think its such a shame to throw it out and I don't want to go through the pain of transferring books etc as I can't remember my amazon login.
So I guess the answer is to find a cheap second hand one or go without as all the other methods don't work.

connect the old kindle to a PC using the charger/USB cable; it should connect automatically. Then copy the kindle 'document' folder to the PC. Disconnect the old, connect the new, and copy the documents to the new one. Books transferred, without involving amazon. But if you can't remember your amazon login you won't be able to register the new kindle.

Try the hard reset, but that probably wont work. You probably need a new screen. You may have a short in the cable for your screen, or some of the backlight bulbs could have burned out. Also, If it's damaged from water, a new screen likely wont help.
I don't know which Kindle you have for sure, so double check for compatibility, but here's a replacement screen on eBay for about $50: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-LCD-...

I have the same problem..It was fine when I went bed and only half screen next morning I have tried reboot a few times to no joy. Any other ideas please

Some Kindles can be affected by high amounts of electromagnetic energy, such as airport security. If you've been anywhere near these kind of things then you're going to need a new kindle. Otherwise the hard reset (holding down the power on slider for 20 seconds) should be of help in fixing it. Try it a few times as some people have found that it can take a few goes.

I don't know how to fix this I have lost the complete screen a couple of times and have managed to restore it but the half screen is a problem can't fix it .
