apple hardware diagnostic test replied with error message

I ran hardware diagnostics and gave me 4mot/4/40000003:hdd-1285 error code

Your HD fan is failing/out of spec (4mot= fan motor) hdd is self-evident, 1285 is how much it is out of spec.

Thank you so much for your timely reply. So is the HD fan inside the HD case and how do I find out what HD is on my IMAC presently and is replacing HD the solution? Thank you so much for your help. Awesome Site.

You may want to try this tool to verify things: Temperture Gauge Pro This model does not have its own HD fan unit. And. yes it could be the HD is running hot. This tool should help you isolate the root issue.

There are actually three fans. One is for the HD, not in/on it but cools it.
