Can a 2nd gen battery work with the 3rd gen

I have a 32gb iPod touch 3rd gen that needs a battery replacement. The battery from the 2nd gen looks similar in almost every way. I can't seem to find the 3rd gen battery anywhere?! Thank you

Answer this question I have this problem too

The batteries may be a little different, but if you look at the teardowns of the devices, both of the batteries run at 3.7V.

There may be a difference in capacity, but the battery should still work in the newer model.

right, the battery hast 3.7v - like every other li-po cell - thats a standard for those cells. you could also use a cell from an iPod shuffle - but the capacity would be not very useful on an iPod touch ;-)

Thank you so much! I now have the confidence to try this :-)
