iPhone5 display randomly goes black.

My iPhone5 is out of warranty (2 Years old). My problem is that my display goes black after some usage (on average less than a minute time). I think this is not the normal display problem of black scree. I have already done home+power restart, restore/update to latest software.

History of problem: One day my phones display suddenly went black. I googled and quickly found the home+power button solution. Upon restart my display was on for some time and then again went black. After that since last 15 days my phone display goes black after some random amount of time and then after waiting for some time and pressing power button it again turns for some time and then again goes black. The more I wait the longer my display stays on after turning on. I can receive calls and messages etc when the display is blank. Another piece of information that I think is the major to pinpoint the problem is that, 3 months ago some my phone got some water damage after I was drenched in rain and there were some white spots on the display due to that. The amount of water was very less and My phone was working fine except those annoying small white spots. I want to repair my phone myself as there are not many good service options in my country but I am not sure if it is a display problem or some other chip/cable problem. If anyone has a clue what could be the exact problem that would be a life save for me.

You may also want to check if they Vision Access "Voice Over" is enabled. It's an accessibility feature for those who are blind that turns the screen off while you are still able to tap around the screen for functions. Try hitting the home button three times to turn it off

Your problem is a hardware problem. You need to replace your screen. This method can solve it which also can't fix it. But it can solve some iPhone black screen issue.

Hello I do belive this is a faulty display I fixed the same problem that was happening in a 5s .

It would go black randomly home or power would not activate but vibrate worked that's how I knew it was still on and not turned off.

After a new screen the black screen disappeared

I have an iPhone 5s about 5 hours ago I was at the mall when I took out my phone to check the time it's blink black two times then just when all black when I pressed the power button the screen showed a black light. What I did was I got home reset it by pressing the home and power button at the same time and just let it sit for I think 4 or 5 hours I had gave it to my little cousin when he clicked the power button it magically turned on and showed the apple logo. I thought it was a screen problem because under my camera if I tap I can hear a rattle. Now I very glad it's back to normal

by

I simply switched off the adaptive brightness of my phone and the problem resolved

I assume you tried charging the phone with the AC adaptor for at least 30 minutes, with no response. Right?

If you did, you need to reset the phone (no data loss): Press both home and power buttons for up to 1 minute, releasing when the Apple logo appears.

However if your power button is "kinda broken", you won't be able to reset, and you only option is replacement or repair.

I am pretty sure its the display, I can use the phone for like 5min before the display goes plain black again. I can use the siri(usually asks me to unlock my iphone for most of the stuff) and attend call via headphones but no display (just plain lit up black screen).

I have the same problem, suddenly and for no reason. Hard reboot does not work -- the apple logo does not appear, even after two minutes of holding both buttons down (or if it does, I cannot see it as the display is still dark). The phone works, but I cannot enter the pin. The touch function does not work.

I will try the charging suggestion -- thanks.

I have had my 5S go black screen, soundless and motionless twice now. No visual, no audio, no vibrate. The first time this occurred, I charged it for 3 - 4 hours without any luck. As I fiddled with it I must have held down the power and home buttons simultaneously for long enough to RESTART it because the apple logo appeared and then the 'Enter Passcode' and numeric dial pad appeared . The interesting thing is that an additional message 'iPhone requires your password after restarting' was also present. This is not normally on the Enter Passcode dial pad screen. So the phone turned off. Mine was not a screen issue. It was a power issue so I suspect that I need a new battery...

hello guys. I have the same problem. Can anyone confirm the above solution(changing the display) works? because, i am going to try the solution myself too. i tried all the other solutions available on the net and met the apple service centre guys. they asked 3/4th amount of the new phone itself to repair, they said that it is the amount apple charges for repair and service charges etc. i cant spend much money for the repair guys... help me.

Update

Hello guys. That solution didnt work for me. Still waiting for my mobile to be fixed...

by

Tariq. Thanks for the info, but my mobile internally works well and the phone calls, siri, touch everything works except the black screen. As I read on Google about u2 IC it states dead mobile simptom. So let me know what you think. Ill wait for your reply.

by

Ravi, U2 IC is to be replaced only if the phone drains the battery extremely fast, or if once discharged will not restart any more.

Just encountered the same problem on my iPhone 5 which is also out of warranty. The longer I leave it, the longer I get to work on it when its on again.

Your post is from October 2014 so I was wondering you must have figured what's wrong by now. Care to share?

Any help at this point of time would be appreciated.

Chain saw, it could be that a new display fixed the issue, without the person who asked the question coming back to mark the solution as accepted.

If your iPhone was never opened before, I advise you to try a new known good display to see if it fixes the issue, like con says here above. Best would be if you could borrow one from another phone for your trial. You can use this guide to attempt the repair.

If it doesn't work, let us know so that we may discuss other issues that could be causing it.

The below may help:

Is this happening after a drop or some other incident?

You have the original screen on, or was it replaced at any time?

Have you tried, like Hmaan here above, to hard reboot, then to restore your phone?

Well I did changed my screen and it worked like a charm, at least was before I sold that stuff and bought new 5S. Replaced display was cool and not looking very promising.

Well it appears some may have fixed this issue by replacing the screen. My wife's iPhone 5s is having same issue. Wish me luck as I will be replacing the screen too. I will come back to tell you if it worked or not.

Sounds like the back light on the display has damaged due to water getting into it. A new screen should sort it out.

My iPhone screen goes totally unresponsive after the phone goes into idle. I did a factory reset on it and I'm still having the same issue. The phone has never dropped nor has it ever had any water damage.. if this is a hardware issue, then why does it reboot after i do a soft reset? I want to believe mine has more to do with the software or iOS because this literally only started happening after I updated the software.. someone please help because I'm not about to pay a $@$* load of money for something that could be easily fixed :(
