I have been using Sony media and any aware that some media will not work on my machine (Mac). Have been using this program encore cs5 for several years and following the same procedure. All of a sudden when I go to burn my dvd it says to insert disc and click ok that I do and it will reject the dvd in about 20 seconds and the process starts all over again. the disc has lots of space. Also tried do short test and same thing happened. The burner will burn a folder or copy a disc and it works great. So I do not think it is the burner.

OK, so it's the same disks you have been using right along. Is this a new package by chance? Also, did you upgrade your OS or CS5 application? It might be a compatibility issue of the program. The fact you can burn a DVD from the finder is a good sign the optical drive is working. Was this a DVD or a CD you used to test the drive? As the optical drive does not burn them in the same way.

Since it appears not to be a hardware problem -As a work around" can you save or archive your project as a Disk Image? If so then the disk image could be burned from disk tools. I often do this to make many quick copies of an iDVD.

You might want to try using a CD/DVD head cleaner which is a disk which has a small brush that will wipe the lens. You also may want to use a short blast of can'ed air but be careful! you don't want the liquid inside to squirt out.

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what OS you're using -there's many of those, which iMac you have there's a lot of those too, what rev or version of the App you're using, a full compete description, the text or screen shot of any error messages) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..

99.044% of optical burn failures are due to selecting too high of a burn speed. That is a software, not a hardware problem. I suggest you cut your burn speed in half, or to 1/4 of the speed you now use.

As a matter of policy we generally don't solve software problems as there are other forums for that. (Have you tried Adobe's Knowledge Base?).
