iMac 24 A1225 3.06 GHz with black screen?

Hello everybody, my iMac 24" 3.06GHz 2008 has a black screen but still displays video on external monitor. Did the flash light trick on screen but still can't see anything on it, it's completely black. I have googled my case but have found only similar situations, nothing exactly as mine. If anybody has had the same exact problem as mine and has found a solution for it and would like to share it I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks for your response machead3. Yes all four diagnostic lights are lit up green.

Forgot to also add that iMac works with external monitor and if I go to System Report it shows that External monitor, iMac display and video card are detected an they are online and all 4 diagnostic lights are lit up green.
