My MacBook always starts in safe mode

I have the exact same issue; I would like to connect an external keyboard to the mac all the time because some of the keys are non-functional.

But my macbook always starts in safe mode (probably because of the keyboard problems).

I want to disconnect the keyboard internally from the logic board and run it as normal, but with an external keyboard connected.

I understand you run into trouble with the power button ... is there no workaround on that?

Options

Keyboard replacements are available on eBay for under $20. It's a lot of screws but can be done in under an hour.
