Display Flickers and Goes Out at most angles

My Macbook 3,1 COre2Duo screen flickers on and off. This has gotten progressively worse over time and now the screen stays lit at only a few angles (less than 90 degrees open). When it flickers, it goes off (not visible with bright lights at all, totally black).

How do I know if this is the (i) data display cable, (ii) inverter, or (iii) inverter cable? I'd like to try and fix it myself but don't want to replace all three unnecessarily.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Only way to know is to test which would require know working parts to plug in. Some things you can try without parts. First apply light pressure (don't try and break your glass) around the edges of the LCD to see if it comes back on. If that is the case you probably need a new LCD which is about 50$. You can also pop off the bottom and make sure the cable to the board is secure. Anything beyond this starts to get invasive as you need to lift the glass on the top to continue. If you do plan to do it yourself, plan to spend another 25$ ish on a new glass just in case something goes wrong.
