Can I upgrade from 4GB to 8GB RAM memory?

I have a MacBook Air 11" mid 2013 that came with 4GB RAM and 128GB hard drive. I want to upgrade the RAM to 8GB so I can run Vmware more efficiently with windows 8.1 and other software that don't run on the mac-side.

Sadly, no

Apple soldered the RAM to the logic board. You can upgrade the SSD! It's replaceable.

Could you replace the entire logic board with one that had 8gb of RAM rather than the original 4gb?

Swapping out the logic board with one that has 8 GB of RAM is possible!

But, the cost factor for doing this then becomes the issue. I would recommend locating a used system which is newer as being a better investment.
