water damage how do I fix it.

juumped in lake with my iPhone turned off. I didn't turn it on. I put it in bag of rice overnight. Then took off the display screen and used a hair dryer to dry out more. I put it back together and it worked initially but then turned off. I plugged it in and the apple logo shows initially then it displays plug into itunes. I plugged it into my computer and it doesn't sense anything is plugged in. What can I do?

first of all -> i never did the rice thing <- it simply makes not much sense (in my opinion!)

non technical fluids (like water) shortens the parts on the logicboard and that will not go away if you put the device in rice.

so cleaning is the only solution i ever did (hundrets of times - i was in the "cell phone repair business" for years).

i use a special electronics cleaner - but you can use IPA (>90%) and a soft paintbrush to clean the shorted parts, easy to recognize - they are mostly white/grennish - something similar to mold. clean (carefully) all connectors - don't forget the dock connector (in- and outside)

let it dry, check everything again and if it's clean - reassemble everything and try to power on the device.

soetimes the battery is complete empty - measuring it is easy and saves a lot of trouble

You can try replacing the dock assembly at the bottom, but that may or may not work. Water damage is tricky business; normally, it's fatal for electronics.

Open the phone and leave it for a few days...

Did the trick for my iPod..

The thing is that the water uses a lot of time to completely evaporate..
