remote control of ceiling fan not operating

I have a Hampton bay remote control on my celing fan. Now it is not operating & i cannot awtich off the fan.I changed The battery- it operates only when I take it 1 foot near the the ceiling fan hub.The light comes on when I press the buitton

Options

The infrared receptor may be dusted over. Try blowing it out with some canned air. You might want to vacuum it first if it is really dusty.
