DVD drive completely nonresponsive and won't even pull new discs in.

13" MacBookPro 7.1

Hello,

I haven't used the drive in a few weeks, but when I tried inserting a DVD to watch, the drive didn't pull the disc in like it used to. It makes no noise on boot up, and shows no other signs of life.

In my disc utility, the drive is listed and indications are normal here, despite discs not being drawn in when inserted.

I am doing more research on potential causes/fixes, but so far, i've got the funny feeling I have to replace the drive.

Thanks for any and all help anyone can provide!!!

Use this guide to remove the drive. I'd open it up and blow it out with canned air.

Thank you Mayer! That's a familiar procedure as I ruined a keyboard 3 years ago and replaced it myself. :) I'll perform this fix tonight.

Great success! I don't know where the dust had stopped proper function, but after removing a fair amount of dust accumulated over 4 years, it works again. Thanks again.
