You're ID covers 12 different machines, spanning 4 years, could you narrow it down a lot more?
The early models only support 3GB/s SATA drives (faster wont work). The later models support 6GB/s SATA drives and slower ones won't work. You may have the wrong speed drive, or, a bad SATA cable.

Yes, that is correct. When I installed it did not appear available and so I thought it was wrong. I needed to format it to appear, problem solved.
