Is it possible to salvage the working parts of Intel core iMac?

Is it possible to salvage the working parts of Intel core iMac and make a new Mac system out of it?

My iMac 27" is now broken, with a huge crack that runs across the vastness of its 27" LCD because my neice accidental tipped it over causing it to fall face flat on the floor.

We had it diagnosed in the Apple store, everything else is great, undamaged and running. That only problem is the broken screen.

They told us the price and it was only around 100-150 USD cheaper than getting a brand new iMac (so getting apple to repare the dents of the aluminum case and replace the 27" screen is not an option anymore).

Aside from just plugging an external monitor to the old iMac to act as its screen (I dont want to see the broken screen everyday), can I just salvage everything that's left behind and make a Mac system out of it?

Luckily for you, the screen is actually pretty easy to replace on these computers. iFixit has a guide right here that demonstrates the whole process. Apple likes to charge an arm and a leg but buying the parts yourself and installing them is a much cheaper alternative. A late-2009 27" iMac Screen Replacement can be had pretty affordable right here. The repair process is pretty easy on these computers is pretty easy, if you think you can do it and want to buy the new screen, I encourage you to try and fix it yourself. Good luck!
