My computers is a "MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011".

"Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock" as an external solution should work. But it is a $200 solution so i think a new laptop is a better idea.

Sadly the I/O board does not hold the USB controller chip. That function is part of the Intel platform controller hub chip which is on the main logic board. The chip you see on it is the audio codec.

Thank you. I understood. Is there something that can be done to upgrade the system to USB 3.0?

by

Sadly no. All laptops use a unitized controller chip these days that services all of the CPU's I/O needs. This chip is part of the main system board and is not replaceable (soldered). If USB 3 is that important I would recommend you look at buying a newer system and selling your current system.

Actually it is possible with external solution. I found this product. "Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock".
