Why does my MacBook 13" early 2009 power adapter burn out?

Maybe someone can help me?

I keep on burning out power adapters (60 watts).

I bought a new computer (used but new to me) and the adapter worked for about a month. Then for a few days it only showed the computer was being powered by electric current then it died completely.

I bought a new power adapter and after 24 hours of recharging it went dead (it is an apple origanl)!!!

I used two different outlets.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much

Here's an interesting article that may shed some light on your problem, overheating power adapters are a common symptom for a lot of users. Generally it can range from a faulty laptop, to a faulty power adapter (with many even after several replacements), to an outlet in your wall that is too high or too low in power.

A good tool to show your battery usage and power is a utility called coconutbattery which you can download here:

Gary, I can't thank you enough for that article!

After reading that there are so many problems that it could be I made a simple calculation.

It's the third computer and the third adapter with the problem. So I deduced that there problem isn't there.

All of a sudden it hit me! The only part that was common to all of the above was the plug from the wall to the adapter.

I opened up the plug, tightened the connection and my "over a year" problem was over!!!

Thanks a lot
