After about 20 minutes of use the PS3 makes loud noise, like a fan running.

charles, sounds like your PS3 is getting hot and that the noise you are hearing , is the fan spinning full speed to keep it cool. You may consider cleaning your air vents and the console itself to ensure continuous good airflow to keep it cool. Here are the guides to work on your console. Hope this helps, good luck.
