Does it make a difference if you place 2x4gb or 4x2gb?

I was wondering if it makes a difference if I place 2x4gb or 4x2gb Ram Brackets to have 8gb ram in total.

I have 4 Ram slots and it is economically better to place 4x2gb, using all of my slots, but does it make a difference ?

What are you putting the RAM into?

Does that make a difference too ? I was looking to buy new RAM for a desktop type computer. Standard asus intel logicboard.
