Proximity Sensor not working after power button replacement

Backstory:

The power button on my began to slowly stop working until it completely failed. I ordered and installed the ribbon cable which connects the power button, volume controls and vibration motor. After this replacement the power button's is fully functional again.

Problem:

After this replacement the proximity sensor no longer functions. In other words, during phone calls the screen is not disabled.

Symptoms/ Attempts to fix:

I have tried to re-seat the connections from the front panel to the logic board. The connections are definitely established because the front facing camera works flawlessly. I then through to purchase a new ribbon cable and proximity sensor, after replacing this component the proximity sensor still fails to function. I am currently putting up with this issue as I have no more ideas on a potential solution.

Update (05/28/2014)

Mario,

Unfortunately, I have resorted to dealing with the issue. I spent a great deal of time getting the original issue regarding the lock button fixed and didn't have much more time to spend dealing with the more recent proximity issue. Very frustrating. Please post back if you find a solution.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi Nick,

had you managed to fix this issue? I'm experiencing the same problem as yours :(

Really bummed there are no answers here. I have replaced dozens of iPhone screens and never had this problem until recently. The last two or three I have done all have this problem. Always buy my parts from iphone4parts, quality has been great in past but I'm wondering if the screens are blocking the prox sensor from reading?

This would be different issue perhaps than OP, since it sounds like he reused the original screen. Any insight would really be welcome. Thanks.

That is what I am thinking. I was very careful to utilize anti-static tools and definitely followed the iFixit guide closely. At this point I am just curious to see if anyone has any clever ideas.

What side did you pry battery off volume button side or logicboard side?

by

I started around the side closer to the logic board and then used the plastic tab to slowly pull it out.
