Upgrade from 2.3 GHz i5 logic board 2.9 GHz i7?

Hello everyone. I have a base model early 2011 macbook pro with the 2.3 GHz i5 chip and was wondering if it is possible to replace the entire logic board with the upgrade part that has the 2.7 GHz 2620m i7 chip. Has anyone done this? Is it possible?

Are newer boards of the same line, e.g. late 2011 and mid 2012 macbook pro logic boards physically compatible?

Long story short, I love my mbp, have upgraded to SSD and 16 Gb ram and am feeling limited by the processor (and video performance!) and cannot afford a new computer right now.

Thanks in advance for any good answers!

From the parts catalogue '12's are not listed as being compatible with '11's nor the '11's with the '12s, so stay with the model year and you'll be OK.

I'm having the same issue, does someone actually have a confirmed answer for this project?

Update (07/13/2014)

I've heard from after market sources that it would be possible if the heatsink and RAM would be changed during the process but I have no idea.

I might just take a chance and see what happens.

Machead -the second time i did give a semi answer no need to becpme a robot now so Stick to your "parts catalogue " I'm sure you will go far with that , I will be posting an answer in Ruffly about 2 weeks , I found a solution and for those of you who choose to waste time dictating where an answer or comment should be, I would suggest you read a book or watch a YouTube video of hamsters making breakfast to waste your time efficiently ....cheers ...
